Hourglass

Peretz picked up the book and positioned it near the spider, which lifted a dainty leg and then crawled onto the spine.
The spider flipped over.
“Ooh, what’s that red thing on your stomach?” Peretz crooned to the spider. “It looks kind of like an hourglass.
Nice. But I’ll think you’ll be happier outside.”
Life in the Hallerman home is business as usual — until cousin Yekusiel comes for an extended stay, and no one’s saying why.
